Why I Continue Blogging

I’ve maintained this website in various forms for over twenty years. I never saw it as a true blog, since I mostly publish technical articles rather than personal reflections. In fact, when I first started my website, the term “blog” probably wasn’t even part of the lexicon.
Over the years, the website has moved to different platforms, but its core focus has always been documenting technical solutions. Occasionally, I publish commentaries like this one, but I generally stick to programming. While my technical posts get few views, these personal ones attract even less. So, why continue?
I never intended to build a large audience or make money from blogging. If anything, the website has been a financial loss due to hosting costs and time spent creating content. I actually stopped posting altogether in 2024, when AI became more widely used in search engines. Many of my technical posts were absorbed by AI models and made available directly in search results, bypassing my website entirely. The number of views dropped dramatically. It was frustrating to see my work essentially stolen.
I took the site down for six months. During that time, I realized that anything posted online can be copied. I found other sites that had scraped my content and published it as their own. But I also realized that my main motivation is sharing knowledge. The number of readers doesn’t matter to me — what matters is helping others who might come across my content. Even if just a few readers benefit, it’s worth the effort. This is particularly true since I, too, rely on AI for answers now, which also reduces traffic to other creators’ websites.
From a personal growth perspective, blogging has been a great way to improve my writing. Putting thoughts into words and sharing them brings a sense of satisfaction. The more I write, the better I get at organizing my ideas and communicating clearly. I’ve also learned to use AI to help with posts. If AI can “steal” my work, at least it can help co-author or edit my content.
In the end, I’ve learned that the true value of creating content lies in helping others, regardless of traffic. Despite challenges with AI, I’ve found satisfaction in improving my writing and sharing knowledge. Ultimately, the effort is worthwhile if it benefits only a few readers.
